How to Use Yogurt As a Yeast Infection Remedy

Yeast infections can be terribly painful, itchy, and embarrassing. Unfortunately many women do not know what causes vaginal yeast infections. Some of the common causes include lack of cleanliness, dryness, and a low immune system. Below are a few tips that can serve as preventative yeast infection remedies.

One cause is wearing underwear that is too tight or is made of a fabric that is not breathable (like spandex or polyester). This kind of underwear causes a buildup of moisture and heat which is perfect breeding grounds for yeast infections. It is advisable to wear breathable, comfortable fitting underwear, like cotton.

Another lesser known cause of yeast infection is unprotected sex with a regular male partner. Yes, ladies, even with a regular partner, sex with a man can cause a yeast infection. After being with the same man over a period of time a woman s PH level becomes more balanced and in effect, cancels out some of the bad bacteria fighting micro organisms that are normally present in a woman s body.

To combat this, mix it up from time to time with a condom. They come in flavors, colors, glow in the dark, lubricated, studded, and now there are condoms on the market that even have a sensitizing lubricant to increase sexual pleasure. In short they make good feelings feel even better.

One of the more dangerous causes of yeast infections, is use of anti bacterial soaps on the genital area. The vagina is supposed to have bacteria. Those micro organisms are what keep germs and disease out of the vaginal canal in the first place. Washing with anti bacterial soap kills the off all the natural bacteria and makes it organically defenseless against microscopic intruders.

If washing on a regular basis does not get rid of any strong or particularly pungent odors, try switching up your diet. The vagina does not just lubricate, it also secretes toxins from the body. An easy remedy for this is to drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, decrease cooked meats, and cut out junk food.

If you already have an infection try this: After showering (with regular soap) take a clean spoon and scoop out a small dollop of plain yogurt and apply this to the outside and inside of your vagina with your finger. Another method is to spread the yogurt on a tampon (one that does not have an applicator) and insert the tampon. This can be left in for about an hour after which you should rinse off in the shower. It is very important to use plain yogurt with no added sugar. It is also good to include yogurt in your diet. Good bacteria helps your whole body.

So remember, drink lots of water, eat healthy, wear breathable underwear, use regular soap to wash your genitals, use condoms, and when all else fails, an ounce of yogurt goes a long way.

Consult your doctor if in addition to common symptoms you experience a spreading rash, fever, dizziness or other potentially dangerous symptoms.
