To have any sort of rat or rodent living in your home or business can be very disturbing. While they may cause you sleepless nights, they utilize the nighttime hours to scurry about and make themselves at home.

Whether it’s the tiny footsteps and scratching you hear after dark, or droppings you find in the corners, as soon as you discover you are dealing with a rat, rodent control should be initiated immediately.

Rats are quite similar to their mice counterparts, aside from their more obvious physical differences. A rat is a rodent that is noticeably larger in size and has a longer tail and bigger ears. There are a number of different species of rats, such as Roof rats and Norway rats.

Knowing which one you are up against can help determine what method of pest control you use. These rodents tend to make much more noise than mice as they move about, making their presence harder to miss.

While you may never actually come face to face with your evasive and unwanted guests, they will leave behind droppings, fur, and nesting materials as evidence. If you sense that there is a rat living in your midst, there is in all probability more than just one.

As with mice, rats live and travel in large colonies. They not only reproduce rather quickly, but they share any food sources and entry ways they come across with the entire colony. What may start out as a smaller scale problem can quickly escalate into a major infestation if it is not taken care of promptly.

Rats are among some of the most destructive rodents in our environment. They rarely stray from the paths that they become familiar with, and these are generally on the outskirts of your home and behind larger objects. As they travel they will cause substantial damage to anything in their way.

They find their way in through any small hole to seek out food, water, and safety from their predators. Once inside, they are known for chewing through just about everything, including walls, floor boards, furniture, clothing and electrical wiring.

In addition, they will contaminate your food, water, and eating utensils, which can ultimately transmit dangerous diseases to your family and pets. Needless to say, it can be quite troubling to be up against the sneaky destruction of a rat. Rodent control is a necessary step if you find yourself in this position.

Like many rodents, rats are quite difficult to get rid of once they have moved in with their colony. Getting rid of one is not enough. There are a number of do it yourself pest control methods to attempt before calling in a professional.

They can be used individually, or by combining more than one method. Rodent pest control begins with thoroughly cleaning the area indoors and out.

Food and water should be tightly sealed and put out of sight, and all possible entry points into your home should be filled to deter anymore rodents from entering. In addition, you can utilize repellents, baits, and traps specifically targeted at solving a rat problem.

Rat control is not a quick and effortless task. It is important to stay vigilant and not give up until you have your house back, rodent free. There are highly experienced rodent and pest control companies in today’s market that can share their vast knowledge with you to make certain you get the results you’re fighting for.
