Do you have babies at home? Did you know that babies have different needs compared to adults? To know more about them, read the article below.
As newborn infants are released from hospitals, neophyte parents are filled with love and excitement because a new member of the family is born. However, they are also anxious and nervous because they fear that they cannot take care of their babies well. Since babies cannot rely on their own for their needs, it is your responsibility as parents to provide them all their needs for them to stay healthy and to survive.
Once your angel is born, numerous changes occur in your life. Aside from the unconditional love, attention and care that parents give to their babies, they have other needs as well. There are additions and alternations in your schedules to take care of them. You wake up in the wee hours of the night to change their diapers, to feed them and to lull them to sleep. You have to change your budget to incorporate baby things. You need to buy new baby clothing, toys, food, crib, bedding, bottle warmers and many more.
As they grow older, their list of needs never ends. You need to plan and prepare things to ensure they get all their needs. You have to change their clothes often to avoid getting sick. You need to purchase hypoallergenic diapers to avoid skin irritations and rashes. Since they have sensitive skin, you need to purchase hypoallergenic and baby soap and shampoos.
Breastfeeding mothers need to change their diet to include vital nutrients to produce quality breast milk. Lactating mothers should be careful on what food they eat because this becomes the source of food for babies. Aside from the colostrum that they receive, they need other nutrients to boost their immune system and to protect themselves from diseases and illnesses. They need carbohydrates, enzymes, vitamins and minerals to develop their digestive system. Mothers should eat nutritious foods, like beans, brown rice, whole wheat bread, squash, carrots, fruits and many more. They also have to incorporate enough protein and fat in their diet to help their body produce high fat milk which baby needs.
Moreover, mothers should bring their babies regularly to the pediatrician to have their regular check up and to get the necessary immunizations.
Aside from these needs mentioned beforehand, babies too have social needs like adults. They need attention, security, companionship and love.
Parents should expose their babies to other babies and other people. Urge other members of the family, friends and relatives to visit and to interact with the baby. As they grow older, you can bring them in parks, playgrounds and play groups so they can learn to interact with other children. By doing so, they gain new friends, they develop social skills and they learn to socialize and to overcome fear and shame.
By knowing all these things, even neophyte parents can learn what babies need to be healthy, to become socially developed and to become an intelligent and responsible individual in society.
