Many people are looking forward to getting 2012 summer Olympics tickets. Tickets will always be in very high demand over the next year as people are preparing to set up vacations to attend the games. Going to the games is a once in a lifetime event that many people will try to do.
The XXX Olympiad is going to be held in London, England in 2012. The events will take place from July 27 to August 12, 2012. The sporting events will take place in venues both within London and in surrounding areas. There are many new venues that have been created specifically for these games.
London was selected by the Olympic Committee to host the games in very close voting. The initial cast of hopeful cities was London, Paris, Madrid, New York City, and Moscow. Moscow was knocked out in the first round of voting then New York City in the second round. After Madrid was knocked out in the third round it was between Paris and London with London prevailing.
There are twenty six different sports held at these games, amongst these sports there are over 300 different events. A few of the most popular sports will include athletics, basketball, football, gymnastics, and swimming. Athletics includes the track and field sports that are always a marquee event. As always there should be high focus on the games as World and Olympic records will be challenged in many different events.
Olympic Park was created in an area outside of the Olympic village. This 2.5 square kilometer area was transformed from an industrial area to an area of lush greenery. There will be large video screens in the area for people to watch the various events that are going on at that time.
The ceremonial torch relay will begin in the United Kingdom on May 18, 2012. Once arriving in the United Kingdom the torch will have a seventy day relay around the countryside and will likely be carried by 8,000 different torchbearers. The relay is marked by various ceremonies and events all the way to the beginning of the games where the flame will be lit at the Olympic stadium.
There is an estimate that there will be 8 million tickets available for the London Games. To help combat traffic congestion organizers are allowing free public transportation for anyone holding a ticket for an Olympic event on that day. There are some events that individuals can watch from the roadside for free such as the marathon, road biking, and triathlon.
The XXX Olympiad will mark the first time that a city has held the games three different times. The Olympics had previously been held in London in 1908 and 1948. The 1908 games were held in London as a fill in for Greece after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. In 1908 there were twenty two nations and 2,008 athletes that participated in the Olympics and in 2012 there will be 205 nations and 10,500 athletes participating.
The XXX Olympiad will be a very popular event. Because of that more people will be looking for 2012 summer Olympics tickets. London is the first city in history to host the games three times.
