Becoming a life coach is a challenge. Your main task will be to help another person try to improve himself or try to solve his problems. And the only way that you can be considered successful in your chosen field is that if you can influence your clients effectively. There are a few questions that are considered the right ones to ask for this job.
To start, you will be assessing your client s situation and how they handle their problems. Asking questions are not only for the purpose of knowing information. It can also be used to build rapport with your client. Also, asking appropriately will help your client develop trust in you. Here are the questions for this task:
What motivates you the most? What makes you feel happy/sad? What are things that you enjoy/hate doing? Asking your client these questions allows them to introspect and look at themselves and how they react to certain things. Your goal in here will be to allow them to share themselves to you. At the same time, you are giving them an opportunity to open up a little with simple topics before you talk about their main reasons in needing your help.
What gives you the most stress? This question can serve as a prelude to the main part in which you are going to search for your client s problem or their main concern. These may be the things that your client sees as threats to their lives. So, when you have knowledge of the things that make them feel agitated, you might want to take extra caution in treading that path in the future.
To be able to learn about the main reason why they have sought your services, you can just directly ask. Furthermore, you would want to learn more about your client so that you will be able to help.
What areas are you most dependable at? This is learning about the strengths of the person. Upon knowing about the real problem, this question can be asked to determine the things at which the client can perform well at. This can be the main focus upon development of a plan to solve the problem or to get to the main objective of the life coach client relationship.
How can I best help you? Letting the client take control of the actions that you are to take is important. A life coach is not an instructor. He is there mainly to help provide alternatives and sound advice to the client. In the end, it will still be the client who will decide based on what he or she thinks is best.
What is your preferred learning style? Different people have different ways of learning. Some want to be told what they can do. There are others who can make up solutions by themselves and only need assistance on going into the right path. You need to be able to find out what system of teaching will be most effective to use with your client. In addition, you can just have a conversation and the client listens to your advice, you may also arrange for the use of visual aids, or you may have to perform certain things in order for your client to learn.
