You might have a square bedroom, but if you want a nice area rug to frame your bed then you are going to want to get a rectangular rug that is slightly larger than your bed. A hall is going to probably require a long runner type of area rug. If the rug is for a child’s room, you may want to buy a rug that comes in an animal or other whimsical shape.
• Personal preference – Of course, your personal taste is the most important consideration when choosing an area rug shape. If you love sleek lines and like the sharp angles of a square or rectangular rug, then by all means choose that. If you like the softer appearance of a round rug then that is the one which you will be happiest with.
